If you install a charging point at home or at work, an inspection is part of the deal. The charging point inspection forms part of the wider electrical inspection: a new or modified installation must be checked for conformity with the AREI before it is put into use. That applies equally to the circuit to which your charging point is connected.
We take care of connecting your charging point installation and get it ready for that inspection. The inspection itself is carried out by an approved inspection body; we make sure the installation is technically in order so that the inspection runs smoothly.
A charging station draws a substantial charging capacity for extended periods and therefore requires its own, correctly protected circuit. Because you are adding a new supply to your installation, the AREI assumes that this part will be inspected. The inspector checks, among other things, the earthing, the correct residual current protection (earth leakage circuit breaker) and the circuit breaker that matches the charging capacity.
A charging station usually requires adapted residual current protection, tailored to the type of charging point. We select and install the protection that suits your installation and charging station, so that the connection is compliant.
We first assess whether your existing installation and connection can handle the extra charging capacity. Where necessary, we provide a separate circuit, install the correct protection and update the earthing. If your charging point supports dynamic charging, we configure the installation accordingly so that charging adapts to your other consumption and your main connection does not become overloaded.
This gives you a charging point that not only works, but is also technically sound and passes inspection smoothly.
After installation and connection, we deliver the installation ready for inspection: the schematic has been updated and the new circuit is correctly included. The inspection body then visits for the official check. If you want certainty in advance, we will go through the installation with you.
