If you install a charging point at home or at work, an inspection is part of the deal. The charging point inspection forms part of the wider electrical inspection: a new or modified installation must be checked for conformity with the AREI before it is put into use. That applies equally to the circuit to which your charging point is connected.

We take care of connecting your charging point installation and get it ready for that inspection. The inspection itself is carried out by an approved inspection body; we make sure the installation is technically in order so that the inspection runs smoothly.

Why an EV charger needs an inspection

A charging station draws a lot of power for long periods and therefore requires its own, correctly protected circuit. Because you are adding a new circuit to your installation, the AREI requires this part to be inspected. The inspector checks, among other things, the earthing, the residual current protection and the circuit breaker that matches the charging power.

The circuit of a charging station must in principle be protected individually by a residual current device of 30 mA at most. We select and install the protection that suits your installation and charging station, so that the connection is compliant.

A compliant connection

We first assess whether your existing installation and connection can handle the extra charging capacity. Where necessary, we provide a separate circuit, install the correct protection and update the earthing. If your charging point supports dynamic charging, we configure the installation accordingly so that charging adapts to your other consumption and your main connection does not become overloaded.

This gives you a charging point that not only works, but is also technically sound and passes inspection smoothly.

Ready for inspection

After installation and connection, we deliver the installation ready for inspection: the schematic has been updated and the new circuit is correctly included. The inspection body then visits for the official check.

Is an EV charger inspection mandatory?
When you install an EV charger, you add a new supply to your installation. Such an extension falls under the inspection obligation of the AREI: the modified part must be checked before it is put into use.
Do you carry out the EV charger inspection yourselves?
No, the inspection is carried out by a recognised inspection body. We install and connect your EV charger in accordance with the AREI and prepare the installation so that the inspection runs smoothly.
Does my EV charger need a separate circuit?
Usually yes. An EV charger draws a high charging capacity for long periods and requires its own, correctly protected circuit with suitable residual current protection. We assess this at your home and provide what is needed.
Can my existing installation handle an EV charger?
That depends on your connection and your consumption. We check this during a site visit. If the EV charger supports dynamic charging, we can align charging with your other consumption so that your main connection does not become overloaded.
