Lost power? We help you work out in a few steps where things are going wrong and when an urgent call-out is needed.
Briefly describe what is happening. Call for an urgent call-out or leave your number and we will call you back as soon as possible.
Bezig met een storing? Laat je nummer na, we bellen je zo snel mogelijk terug voor een dringende interventie.
At some point everything goes quiet: the lights go out, the fridge falls silent and you wonder where it is going wrong. A power cut is annoying, but usually easy to pinpoint if you know where to look.
On this page you can read how to safely make a first diagnosis yourself, how to distinguish a problem with the network operator from a fault in your own installation, and when you are best to call straight away for an urgent intervention.
The first question is always: is the problem outside or inside your home? Check whether your neighbours also have no power and whether the street lighting is still on. If the whole neighbourhood is in the dark, it is probably a fault on the grid operator's network and there is nothing you can do yourself.
If you are the only one without power, the cause is almost certainly in your own installation: your main fuse, a circuit breaker, the residual current device or a faulty appliance overloading the circuit.
Go to your fuse box and check whether a circuit breaker has tripped or the residual current device (RCD) is in the down position. If a switch is down, this indicates which circuit has the problem.
First unplug appliances on that circuit from the socket and then try to flip the switch back up. If it stays up, the issue was with one of the disconnected appliances. If it trips again immediately, do not touch anything else and call a professional.
Call immediately if you smell burning, if you can see sparks or soot at the consumer unit or a socket, or if the RCD keeps tripping again and again as soon as you reset it. That points to an earth leakage fault or a wiring fault that you must not tackle yourself.
Also, if the whole installation stays dark while your neighbours still have power, and you cannot find a tripped switch, an urgent call-out is warranted. In that case, contact us by phone for a rapid response.
Is the whole neighbourhood without power too? Then it is a grid outage, not a problem in your home.
Check whether a circuit breaker or the residual current device has tripped.
Unplug the appliances on the affected circuit and try switching it on again.
Burning smell, sparks or soot: do not touch and call right away.
Check whether the neighbours and the street lighting are also without power.
Find the tripped circuit breaker or residual current device.
Unplug the devices and switch the circuit in question back on.
If the problem persists, you smell something or see sparks: call for an urgent callout.
If the checklist does not solve it, or you smell or see something suspicious at the fuse box, call us for an urgent call-out and we will come and check your installation quickly.
