An inverter does not last as long as the solar panels themselves. It is often the first component of the installation to fail. If you notice an error message on the screen, your installation shuts down or you see a structurally lower yield, then the inverter is one of the first suspects. Replacing an inverter is then sometimes the logical step, but not always.

We first assess exactly what is going on before we replace anything. A fault can also be in the cabling, a fuse or a panel. Only if the inverter really is the cause do we look at which replacement fits best.

Signals that your inverter is due for replacement

The clearest signals are an inverter that no longer starts up, a recurring error message or a red light. A yield that is lower month after month than you are used to, while the panels are clean and unshaded, often also points towards the inverter.

You do not declare an inverter faulty at first glance. We read out the error code, check the connections and carry out measurements. That way we know whether it is a temporary fault, a repairable component, or whether replacement is the wisest choice.

Repair or replace

Sometimes a fault is easy to fix, for example with a reset, a loose connection or a damaged cable. If a repair is no longer worthwhile, or the part is no longer available, then replacement makes more sense.

When replacing, we consider whether an equivalent model will suffice or whether it is a good moment to think ahead. If you are considering a home battery in the near future, it can be wise to choose a hybrid inverter straight away, so that when you add storage you do not have to intervene again.

Frequently asked questions

How do I recognise that my inverter is defective?
Think of an error message on the screen, an installation that cuts out or a yield that keeps declining for no clear reason. You only get certainty after reading out and testing on site.
Do I always have to replace the entire inverter in case of a fault?
Not always. Sometimes a reset, a restored connection or a replaced cable is enough. Only when the inverter itself is the cause and repair does not pay off is replacement appropriate.
Can I switch to a hybrid inverter straight away when replacing?
Yes. If you are considering storage, replacement is the logical moment to choose a hybrid inverter that is ready for a home battery. That way you avoid a second intervention later.
Does my installation not work at all during the fault?
That differs from situation to situation. With a defective central inverter, production usually comes to a standstill. We come by to find the cause and get your installation working again as quickly as possible.
